HR Trends to Watch for in 2022

Entering into a new year can be full of uncertainty for numerous reasons. Add a lingering global pandemic to that uncertainty and you are left with an increased sense of burnout in the workplace.

To help you prepare for the new year, we have provided four trends to watch out for in 2022.

OSHA ETS

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has mandated their emergency temporary standard (ETS) for private employers with 100 or more employees. The ETS requires unvaccinated employees to be masked and tested weekly.

OSHA has faced legal challenges over the ETS which has delayed the original deadlines. Penalties for noncompliance will now begin on January 10, 2022. The testing requirements for unvaccinated employees will now begin on February 9, 2022. 

The ETS requires covered employers to:

  • Implement a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination plan
  • Obtain employees’ vaccination status to create a roster
  • Mandate weekly tests for those who are unvaccinated
  • Abide by the CDC’s quarantine policies for positive COVID cases

Turnover rates continue

High turnover rates will be no stranger in 2022. According to a study by Korn Ferry, 55% of respondents believe that employee turnover will increase. The pandemic has caused employees to re-evaluate their priorities in life. Knowing what they are worth, employees are now able to seek jobs that provide a clearer advancement path and better benefits.

Speaking with employees to further understand what benefits suit them is important. What may have benefited employees 18 months ago may not be the same today. Creating a more well-rounded benefits package will make the employee feel heard.

Remote work is here to stay

As we’ve seen over the last 18-24 months, employees are proving to be just as effective in remote roles as they were in the office. Many companies are allowing their employees to continue working remotely. As a result, on-site employers are having a more difficult time filling their open positions.
